I am a cultural anthropologist and ethnographer of the urban environment and write about architecture, ecology, and science, technology and infrastructure across the Américas. My current research examines the competing politics of governance for a landform in Guatemala City as they are framed by conservation initiatives, land tenure and city planning, architectural discourse, the privatization of public space, and urban poverty. My project, “Remaking Ravines: Design and Conservation in Postwar Guatemala City” is funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation (2019), as well as interdisciplinary research centers and fellowships at Rice University. Previous research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
In addition to academic texts, I write essays, reviews, and commentaries for the digital humanities and magazines. I am also an editorial intern for the American Ethnological Society (2021-2023) and have worked as a contributing editor for Platypus, The CASTAC blog and as a digital content editor for Cultural Anthropology. I am the current Secretary (2021-2024) for the Society for Latin America and Caribbean Anthropology (SLACA).
At the moment, I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Cultural Anthropology at Rice University in Houston, TX. I hold a MA in Anthropology from Rice University, and BS in Anthropology and a minor in Women and Gender studies from the University of California, Riverside.
Soy una antropóloga social del entorno urbano. En particular, escribo sobre la arquitectura, el terreno, y la ecología. Actualmente soy candidata a doctorado en el Departamento de Antropología Social de la Universidad Rice en Houston, Texas, EE. UU. Tengo una maestría en antropología de la Universidad Rice y una licenciatura en antropología con una especialización en estudios de mujeres y género de la Universidad de California en Riverside.
Mi investigación actual examina la política de gobernanza de un accidente geográfico en la Ciudad de Guatemala en lo que respecta a la conservación, la tenencia de la tierra, la arquitectura, el espacio público, y la pobreza urbana.
